As the founder of Internet Village and Doing Good Ambassadors (TIVVET) Robinson has become a beacon of hope for young children and women in The Gambia, relentlessly pursuing the promise of Vision 2030 by aligning his initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
The Genesis of a Dream
JJ Robinson’s journey began with a deep-seated belief that education and technological innovation hold the keys to breaking the cycles of poverty and inequality. Growing up in a community where opportunities were scarce, Robinson saw firsthand the struggles of marginalized groups. Determined to rewrite their stories, he laid the foundation for Internet Village—a digital and ecocultural platform dedicated to empowering self-sustained communities through technology, education, and innovational training, skills development.
From its inception, Internet Village became a safe haven where underserved youths and communities could learn, grow, and thrive for Free. It was here that Robinson realized the importance of focusing on gender equality (UNSDG 5) and quality education (UNSDG 4) as pivotal strategies to build a brighter future.
Fandema Project: A Gateway to the Future
In partnership with the Fandema Project, Robinson expanded his vision to include Skills for Life Development, an initiative designed to prepare Gambian children, women, youth for the Fourth Industrial Internet Revolution. Through programs in renewable energy, computer literacy, STEM, media, fashion design, culinary arts, and SMART initiatives. Fandema has opened doors for hundreds of students to step into the world of renewable technological innovation studies and real life practices using skills for life sciences.
Robinson’s efforts at Fandema prioritize decent work and economic growth (UNSDG 8), equipping participants with the skills needed to compete in a rapidly evolving digital economy. He believes that every young Gambian, regardless of their background, deserves access to cutting-edge technology and real-life work experiences to secure a sustainable future.
Empowering Women and Children
Robinson’s leadership shines through his commitment to empowering women and children. At the heart of his mission lies a passion for breaking down barriers and fostering equality. Programs at Fandema specifically target young Marginalized girls and women, providing them with Free Quality educational opportunities, tools and training to become leaders in fields traditionally dominated by men. His work aligns with reduced inequalities (UNSDG 10), ensuring that no one is left behind.
Through the Doing Good TIVVET initiative, Robinson has created a pipeline of opportunity, training thousands of Gambians in vocational education and technology.
His blended learning model introduces participants to renewable energy solutions, digital literacy, ICT research and Development, Student Fintech Solutions and job-readiness skills, ensuring they are equipped to tackle the challenges of the modern world.
Vision 2030: A Future Transformed
Robinson’s journey is far from over. His ultimate goal is to secure over 365 million dalasi in contributions, grants, and investments to sustain Internet Village Vocational Education Technology beyond 2030. This ambitious project is built around sustainable cities and communities (UNSDG 11) and partnerships for the goals (UNSDG 17), ensuring a holistic approach to community empowerment.
Under his leadership, the Fandema Project has become a cornerstone of The Gambia’s renewable economy with a prototype of community development strategy, creating ripple effects across the region. By fostering innovation, Robinson is preparing a generation of young Gambians to take on leadership roles in shaping the country’s future.
